Brisbane/Meanjin dynamic emo rock trio Upsetter round out the year with their new rock belter ‘Best years of my life’, reflecting on time lost to chronic illness. The song captures the frustration of a body unable to rest, feeling fatigued, and the mental fog from years of disrupted sleep cycles.

SELF DECEPTION on “Time’s Up”: "There’s so much anger boiling over these days, this song almost wrote itself. People find unity in rebellion, and that’s exactly what this track is. No more discussion, no more waiting. Tick Tock Time’s Up.”

Accompanied by a video directed by Zombie, ‘Heathen Days’ is a callback to his earlier sound of furious, groove laden guitar riffs as he lyrically invokes the ungodly days when chaos and war were constantly at your back.

Guitarist Nicolai Busse comments: ‘‘Young’ is a song that has travelled through time. The chorus was one of the first pieces I wrote for MØL in 2012 while living outside Denmark. I returned to it for years without making it right, but revisiting it for this record finally made it click and come together.’

“The fans have reacted really well to this song at our shows—it’s a lift-up song in our set. It’s fast and full of energy, which fits the live set extremely well. With seeing the fans’ energy every evening, it gave us the idea that this song deserves a music video. Specifically, a video that shows the audience, the uplifting energy and feel of our live show. This song has became a fan-favourite.”

When asked about the inspiration behind the song, the band shared, “Euphoria is about chasing that rush of the first time, trying to recapture that brand new magical feeling again and again for the rest of your life.”

Tomas Olsson about “Field Of Swords”:

“‘Field of Swords’ is about the evolution in warfare and the significance of forging iron with carbon that led to superior swordsmen.”

FEUERSCHWANZ on the new video:

The third and final single from Dyssidia’s forthcoming album, Deeper Wells Of Meaning, 'Dream Persuasion', has just been released. It's the bands first ever collaboration and features Japanese tsugaru shamisen performer, composer and vocalist, Noriko Tadano.

Joona Björkroth comments on the song: “Watch The Sky Fall is a classic love song done the Battle Beast way — power, emotion, massive orchestrations, and a one-and-a-half-minute guitar solo part shared between Juuso and me. Life becomes easier with that significant person by your side, whether it’s your partner or a close friend. Whatever comes your way, together you can overcome anything.”

"I believe that action is the best response to the current state of the world," says frontman Max Tulysewski. "But sometimes all I can muster is despair. This song has been a work in progress since the pandemic, and I think it reflects some common themes of the last five years. My hope is that this song encourages people to be kinder to themselves and those around them."

Vocalist Sam Bianco explains: "Just like the previous songs, subtlety isn't our strong suit and the lyrics kind of spell it out. It’s about feeling empty, lonely, and wanting to go out and experience the world but feeling like I'm not able to."
