INTERVIEW: NONPOINT IN CONVERSATION WITH ELIAS SORIANO
Interview by Cecilia Pattison-Levi
NonPoint are returning to tour Australia with (Hed) PE in February. It has been seven years since the band were here. The band have been on top of their game with tours of Europe in late 2025 with Lacuna Coil, the US tour of their “Painful Statements” concerts, a two-part celebration marking the 25-year anniversary of their impactful albums ‘Statement’ and the 20-year anniversary of ‘To The Pain’. NonPoint are going to bring their music: both old and new, to the Princess Theatre for fans to soak it all in.
NonPoint have had an incredible musical career spanning nearly three decades and their melodic nu-metal blended with rap-rock was genre defining. However, NonPoint are more than their past with the band continuing to write and record new music.
“We have kinda leaked a few new bits of songs online in 2025,” said Elias Soriano. “But we are getting down to business with new music coming out in the middle of the year. It will be our first new album in 4 years. We are concentrating on it, and working on it, we may have some songs ready to go in February, but we want to release the record properly and do a tour for that album”.
So, with this Australian tour with (Hed) PE the plan is to have fun. “We are seasoned and ready to go!” exclaimed Elias Soriano. “This tour is about being with friends and fans. The setlist – that we aren’t settled on quite yet will be a real mix. We are going to revisit fan favourites and deep cuts. It will be a blend of everything”.
The US band NonPoint's most famous and highly regarded albums are ‘Statement’(2000) and ‘To The Pain’ (2005) that established their alternative nu-metal sound. The band currently consists of vocalist Elias Soriano, drummer Robb Rivera, rhythm guitarist Rasheed Thomas, bassist Adam Woloszyn, and lead guitarist Jaysin Zeilstra.
“We are very proud to celebrate and play those records that are having big birthdays,” stated Elias Soriano. ‘‘But the band is focused on now. We are concentrating on playing high-energy shows and not being so rushed on the recording side. We think the new music will excite fans as we are more controlled in our writing of music and lyrics. Life experience has given us new ideas and a bigger vision. We want to write and craft new sounds, we want to enjoy it, and we want to listen to it and be something we love and want to play”.
Until the new music arrives, Elias Soriano encourages fans to:
“Come out and have a great night! Australian audiences are always amazing. The vibe is always positive and the culture around live music is great. The touring part in a short time is tough, but there are so many good things”.
NonPoint want fans to know that this short tour will deliver a mix of 30 years of music, but it’s not a nostalgia run. It’s a statement of intent and a time to get ready for the future.
“When the new album comes out,” said Elias Soriano. “It will all be about the new record. We want the fans to listen to and fall in love with the new record when it comes out. Then, we will come back in late 2026”.
Until then, the powerhouse pairing of Hed (PE)’s album ‘Broke’ and Nonpoint’s release in the same year of ‘Statement’ will enlighten fans about the musical climate and albums that gave birth to the band, and the creation of nu-metal and its scene in the late 90s and early 00s.
NonPoint remain very much alive, hungry and battle-tested.
