INTERVIEW: BORN OF OSIRIS IN CONVERSATION WITH NICK ROSSI
Interview by Cecilia Pattison-Levi
In the last year, Born of Osiris has undergone a lot of changes. There has been changes to the band line-up and internal turmoil. But the band has gathered themselves together and unleashed all of this restless energy into their ninth studio album and first full-length record in four years, ‘Through Shadows’, and toured the US.
Born of Osiris (Cameron Losch, Ronnie Canizaro, and Nick Rossi) were tasked with proving that they could carry on just fine with a reduced line-up and they have persevered and done it.
“Just about every band feels the pressure to deliver the goods and validate themselves with each new album,” stated Nick Rossi. “We feel we have come through and you just have to be resilient. Because things are going to get dark, and it might get darker. ‘Through Shadows’ is about holding on to hope as we all have our struggles. Whether it be losing somebody through addiction or old age, a relative or someone you thought would be with you forever. The album is about perseverance”.
Now Born of Osiris are looking forward to 2026.
‘‘Yeah. We are going to tour Europe, come to Australia and we want to write and follow up with a new album with refreshed brains and a new vision of where we want to go,” said guitarist and songwriter Nick Rossi. “The latest album reflects what’s been happening in our personal lives. A lot of these songs have been worked on for a long time, and they reflect the journey we have been on and what we’ve all experienced. And that’s essentially what we’re trying to show in the album. It’s all been a long time coming, and we’re really excited for people to finally be able to listen to it”.
It has been six long years since the Chicago based progressive heavy metal band Born of Osiris has visited Australia with their signature blend of crushing guitar riffs, intricate synth layers, and unrelenting technical prowess. The band are known for their mind-bending live performances.
“We are due a return,” stated Nick Rossi. “We know it has been a while but we loved coming to Australia to play. The fans are great. We are going to give fans a different set. We are going to go back and play the 2011 ‘The Discovery’ album for them. Fans have been asking for it – so we are going to do it. We want to celebrate it. Then, we will mix in songs from ‘Through Shadows’, ‘The Simulation’ and our other albums”.
“We are also going to be touring with Signs Of The Swarm,” explained Nick Rossi. “Those guys are awesome. We played with them about 4 years ago so it will be great to reconnect with them and all the fans. Those guys really set Pittsburgh on the map and are a ferocious live band. Fans will love them”.
Born Of Osiris have spent more than 20 years shaping, stretching and redefining the borders of progressive metalcore.
“We can’t wait to perform for our fans in Australia,” said Nick Rossi. “We just want to thank them for their support over the years. See you there”.
