GRUB RELEASE SELF-TITLED DEBUT ALBUM

Fremantle five-piece GRUB have today released their self-titled debut album via Wing Sing Records, alongside focus single "Goal Post", capping off a huge few months for one of the country’s most exciting new bands.

Led by songwriter and frontwoman Matilda Beales, alongside Peter Bibby (drums), Edo Ekic (bass), Duncan Strachan (guitar) and Mitch McDonald (guitar), GRUB arrive with a nine-track debut that’s darkly funny, brutally honest and impossible to neatly categorise.

Album focus track "Goal Post" takes aim at what it means to be an artist in the age of the internet: clinging to self-worth through fame by proxy, chasing validation and dealing with the relentless pressure to somehow “make it big” in music.

“The lyrics of Goal Post are me trying to make sense of existing in the music machine,” explains Beales, "How the never-ending goal of trying to hit the big time will surely leave us all feeling shit about ourselves at the end of the day."

The album arrives following a massive few months for GRUB. Lead single “Shake It” has been absolutely smashed on triple j, with further support from almost every community radio station in the country. The band also scored triple j Unearthed Feature Artist in September.

On the live front, GRUB recently sold out their Perth headline show, and have recently announced they’ll support Cash Savage and the Last Drinks at the Croxton in Melbourne, and play a headline show at The Tote the same weekend.
Tickets available via Oztix.

One of GRUB’s earliest champions was The Peep Tempel’s Blake Scott, who first heard the band unexpectedly on RTRFM: “I was driving over the Fremantle Bridge… I couldn’t pull my car over quick enough to find out who it was. I thought ‘this is fucking amazing,’ rang Adam and said ‘we need to sign this band’.”

That reaction ultimately lead GRUB to Wing Sing Records, where they now release their debut with plenty of momentum behind them.

At the centre of GRUB is Beales’ songwriting, digging into sobriety, stability, relationships, ambition and the messier corners of being human with plenty of humour and zero interest in sanding down the edges.

Recorded at Fremantle’s Rada Studios, the album was engineered by Mitch McDonald and Dan Carroll, mixed by McDonald and mastered by Nao Anzai.

With a debut album now out in the world, a sold-out hometown show under their belt and some serious support building around them, now’s a very good time to get acquainted with GRUB.

GRUB is out now.

"GRUB proving again why they're one of the most exciting emerging acts in the country. LIVE LAUGH GRUB!" - Andy Gavrilovic, triple j Unearthed
