VANTA RELEASE NEW SINGLE + VIDEO ‘KUYANG’

Perth-based melodic death metal band VANTA unveil their new single - ‘Kuyang’ — a new chapter in their evolving sound and vision and continuing their ascent as one of the most exciting modern voices in Australian heavy music.

Formed in 2020, the now trio have been crafting something unique in the melodeath space, an approach that fuses their influences with experimentation, storytelling, and a cinematic edge. Writing, recording, and releasing on their own terms, the band have built a DIY path defined by passion and conviction, showing what can be done without industry gatekeepers. ‘Kuyang’ reflects that momentum, both sonically and thematically. Inspired by Indonesian folklore, the track builds on the darkness hinted in previous singles ‘Empty Shell’ and ‘Sandstalker’, pushing deeper into the world VANTA are creating across their upcoming full-length.

Drummer Ferdi Handojo comments: ‘Kuyang’ ties back to my Indonesian roots. The folklore describes a parasitic spirit, but I see it as symbolic of the young being drained and their minds rotting under algorithmic distractions, AI, and tech acting like a modern vampire feeding on their energy and potential. At the same time, governments around the world are weaponising this technology to lie, divide, and manipulate. These are the monsters we’ve created because of our ignorance. You’ll hear a lot of that in this album. Lyrically, it builds on that theme, showing how humanity is quietly breeding monsters of its own. It’s another chapter in the world we’re building with this album, where conflicts and dysfunction are embodied as creatures and folklore entities.”

With ‘Kuyang’, VANTA are cementing themselves as a band unafraid to stretch melodeath into new shapes while staying true to its visceral core. The single teases the darker, expansive world that will fully unfold on their upcoming album in early 2026.
