TO OCTAVIA SHARE FINAL SINGLE "SOMETHING IN THE WATER" OFF UPCOMING ALBUM
Melbourne alternative rock group To Octavia return with their striking final single, "Something In The Water", off their debut album, MELODRAMA, which will be released Friday October 31.
“Something In The Water” is a love song for someone you no longer recognise, a meditation on sudden change, the unsettling possibility that someone was always this way, and the painful question of whether love is enough to endure the hurt. The track is accompanied by a monochrome, artful video by Andrew Vaughan, placing the band’s performance against stark, evocative shots of vocalist Merry Kirk-Holmes, visually echoing the song’s themes of turmoil and self-reflection.
It follows the success of previous single “What’s My Name?” which channelled frustration at the state of the world and the destructive ways people treat one another. That track received daytime triple j play, Unearthed rotation, and joined earlier singles “Talk Is Cheap” and “bury me.” on the album’s tracklist, collectively amassing close to 200,000 Spotify streams, and seeing lead single “bury me.” score national TV exposure via Channel 7 Thursday Night Football.
Produced, mixed and mastered by longtime collaborator Chris Lalic (Windwaker, RinRin), all leading singles have showcased the darker, heavier direction To Octavia are embracing on MELODRAMA, building on their genre-blending roots with the harsher energy of their earlier work, now delivered with more conviction.
