MELTING SHARE RAGING NEW SINGLE "THE SWORD"

Melbourne Metal outfit Melting, share new single "The Sword", a punishing burst of raging power off their upcoming sophomore EP, A Pathetic Excuse For A Lifeout Friday 29 May via Greyscale Records.

Clocking in at just 1:01, "The Sword" doesn’t waste a single second getting to the point. Driven by a rapid-fire rhythm section and a chugging backbone, the track is unrelenting. While much of the EP leans into darker, more personal territory, "The Sword" stands out as one of its more outwardly uplifting offerings.

Guitarist Alex Bertuna explains: "The EP as a whole tackles some very personal, dark and heavy topics for Xavier, but I wrote 'The Sword 'to be something of a ‘stop letting life happen to you’ kind of thing. Stop begging for guidance, figure it out yourself, hold the f*ckin sword."

"The Sword" follows earlier single "Glare", which also appears on A Pathetic Excuse For A Life, a record that unapologetically and authentically explores life's darker realities. "The way we see it - every song is pointed at a different kind of person that can make your life feel like hell. There’s an undertone of overcoming it running throughout though," the band explain.

Musically, the EP is intentionally stripped back with minimal layering and samples, recorded as DIY as possible. "Clay and Angie at The Brain Studios in Sydney saw our vision completely and absolutely nailed the feeling we wanted for this record," Alex adds. "A record that gives you no rest, just bludgeons you for the entire runtime and then stops. It somehow feels faster, but also sludgier than our last release at the same time. We considered each other’s influences a lot more with this release and that really shines when we’re playing the music live."

The upcoming sophomore EP follows a breakout year for the band, whose debut EP You Exist Because We Allow It marked an impressive introduction. "This first year of You Exist Because We Allow It has been absolutely nuts," says the band. "It's hard to put into words how full on it has been. All we know is that we are so grateful to have done all the things we have already done in such a short period of time. Camp Melting is firing on all cylinders, and that's a nice feeling, especially with so much coming up!"

After first turning heads with a string of debut singles in 2024, Melting quickly caught the attention of Greyscale Records, signing with the label in early 2025. Follow-up singles "874and "Into The Suffer" laid the foundation for their debut EP - an uncompromising body of work that firmly established their identity.

Since the first release, the band have built serious momentum on stages across the country, sharing bills with the likes of King 810 (US), Malevolence (UK), Alpha WolfThe Gloom In The CornerThornhill and Bloom.

"The Sword" is available and streaming everywhere now. A Pathetic Excuse For A Life will be available Friday 29 May via Greyscale Records.
