DREAMSPEED SHARE HAUNTING NEW SINGLE "INVERSE SHADOWS"
Boorloo/Perth doom-metal outfit Dreamspeed share their haunting new single, "Inverse Shadows" off their upcoming debut EP, Demo, out Friday 6 November. They'll showcase their new tunes live at Halloween at Lynotts Lounge on Saturday 31 October with Your Mothers Disgusting Window, Forged By Fear and Wittenoom. Tickets on sale now.
Another searing showcase of their blackened screamo, depressive doom and post-black metal sound, "Inverse Shadows" was one of the first tracks written together, exploring the concept of Dreamspeed itself: the embodied sensation of hopelessness, like trying to scream, run or throw a punch in a dream. Punishing and frayed vocals deliver a vengeful exploration of violence and abuse, offering a form of lyrical atonement for memories that time has reduced to bad dreams.
"Inverse Shadows" follows previous single "Corpse Light", which brought together wailing guitar feedback, haunted vocals and undulating rhythm and melody, spanning the full breadth of Dreamspeed’s sound. Lyrically, it's about becoming damned, reflecting on the sorrow and despair of the moon-mirrored towers of Minas Morgul from J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, interwoven with loveless promises of vengeance.
Both the singles and EP artwork are steeped in darkness. "Inverse Shadows" features a photograph taken from the final Demo artwork, capturing metal, saliva and chain links from the monochromatic oil on canvas work created by Dreamspeed vocalist Han Gunn.
Established in June 2025, Dreamspeed have quickly carved out a name within Australia’s heavy underground, combining depressive doom, post-black metal and screamo into something distinctly their own. Han Gunn (vocals), Oli Booth (guitar), Daniel Hacking (bass) and George Blacklock (drums) channel influences including Deafhaven, Agalloch, Ragana, Worm, Blind Girls and Bismuth, alongside sounds spanning death-doom and black metal. Their music is an emotional and sonic wall of dark melancholy; haunted by harsh vocals and driven by unrelenting percussion with twisting, distorted guitar melody overlaid.
Their upcoming six-track EP, Demo, was self recorded and mixed by the band at Sumo Sound Studios with George Blacklock and Daniel Hacking handling recording, and Blacklock also taking on mixing and mastering duties. "Corpse Light" follows the release of "A Ditch of Your Dimensions", which arrived in March as Dreamspeed’s debut single and the first taste of Demo.
Already making waves on the live circuit throughout Perth, Dreamspeed have shared stages with dark and alternative artists including Halo of Teeth, Life Cult, The Chain and Shit Narnia, while also appearing at Loudmouth Records’ One Blood Fest and Arrival Festival 2026. Last month the band joined Perth death-metal legends Crypt Crawler as part of Blacken Forever Festival - a nationwide celebration of music and solidarity, uniting Australia’s heavy metal community to Save The Black Wreath.
"Inverse Shadows" is out now and streaming everywhere. 'Demo' the EP will be out Friday 6 November.
