ALT SHARE DARK NEW SINGLE "THEY'VE ALWAYS LIVED IN THE CASTLE"
Adelaide alternative metal quintet alt. share dark new single "They've Always Lived In The Castle", out everywhere now via Resist Records (AU) and SharpTone Records (ROW).
Produced, mixed and mastered by Callan Orr (Dream On Dreamer, Hands Like Houses), "They’ve Always Lived In The Castle" expands on the thematic world the band began building on their earlier single "Sucker Punch", leaning further into ideas of systemic control, imbalance of power and the boiling point that follows suppression. "Sucker Punch" captured the realisation that enough is enough, where this latest cut escalates the narrative, encouraging a revolution.
"They've Always Lived In The Castle confronts a world where power has always protected itself," says the band. "Where the wealthy remain untouched, and those at the top tighten their grip while the rest are left behind. The song channels a moment when people decide they’ve had enough and rise to reclaim their lives."
That sense of rebellion is portrayed in the music video, which places the band in an otherwise ordinary living room. What begins as a familiar, domestic setting transforms into a space of outcry as the performance unfolds. Watch the video here.
Emerging in late 2019, alt. quickly built a devoted following for their impassioned fusion of punk, pop, electronic and alternative rock. Their debut single "insubordinate" premiered via Dreambound, before 2020’s EP dysfunctional racked up over two million streams. Written alongside collaborators including Trenton Woodley, Jimmy Alexander, Luke McKenzie, Zach Britt and Chris Lalic, the independent release propelled the band onto national tours and shows with the likes of Don Broco, Enter Shikari, Saosin, Dayseeker, Karnivool, Cog, Windwaker and more, and saw them consistently turning heads with their innovative sound.
In 2022, alt. signed with Resist Records and SharpTone Records, ushering in a darker era that culminated in their 2023 debut album ABEYANCE. Featuring guest collaborations from Jack Bergin, Marcus Bridge and Landon Tewers, the record showcased the band’s refusal to be pigeonholed into any one genre. Their single, "Conversations That Hurt", was co-written with John Floreani and flourished with alt.'s trademark melodic dexterity while weaving together threads from both their earlier releases. Since their inception, alt. have sold out national headline runs, headlined a night of Unify Gathering, performed at Froth and Fury Fest, Unify Off the Record and have featured on BBC Radio 1.
New singles "They've Always Lived In The Castle" and "Sucker Punch" are available and streaming everywhere now via Resist Records and SharpTone Records.
