GDP(US) ANNOUNCES AUSTRALIAN TOUR

DROPS NEW SINGLE "SEROQUEL" OFF FIRST ALBUM IN 14 YEARS

GDP returned last month with the announcement of his first new album in 14 years, Cross Off Matthew. Arriving Friday 23 October via Run For Cover Records/Civilians, the album proves that the New Jersey emcee is still in top form with 12 tracks of mind-bending beats and razor-sharp bars that are sure to please longtime fans and new listeners alike. Today he's back with another new single "Seroquel" and announces an Australian headline tour this November and December.

The extensive Australian run will see GDP and special guest Slim Krusty visit Hobart, Franklin, Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane, Toowoomba, the Gold Coast, Sydney and Mt Gambier, kicking off Thursday 12 November at Grinners Dive Bar in Hobart and wraps up Sunday 29 November at The Pantry in Mt Gambier. Tickets on sale now.

New single "Seroquel" follows lead single "Island In The Sky" and offers another cut of thumping beats and mutated production. GDP discussed the new song saying, "This was another one of those songs that sort of wrote itself, which is always the goal but not always the reality. Conceptually, it is but a glimpse into some of the thoughts that pass in-between my ears when I walk through the world. Questions with no logical answer. The bitter but sweet, funny but sad, ironies of the human condition. I made the beat on a train from Osaka to Kyoto and couldn’t hear what I was doing very well but when I got to my hotel room, I was pleasantly surprised. The music video was loosely inspired by an old Robert Frank short film and more generally, the turbulent synchronicity of New York streets. The visual jazz. I wanted to freeze frame a tiny sliver of the dance and pay homage to the everyday heroes, the myriad of strangers who act as the paint on the cities turbid canvas. An abundance so overwhelming, you might miss it you don’t take a moment to stop and look around."

GDP got his start in the late 2000s/early 2010s with a run of DIY hip hop albums that were heavily informed by his roots in hardcore punk and skateboarding. His early releases gained traction within independent rap circles but after years of grinding he shelved the project to focus on photography, film, publishing, and even global health work. But he never strayed far from music and in 2025 he released ENDOCRINE, a collaborative album with Fatboi Sharif, that officially marked his return to the GDP moniker.

Now Cross Off Matthew is the first proper GDP album since 2013's Holla and it strikes a balance between fearlessly expanding his sound and reminding listeners of what made him such a formidable presence in underground hip hop to begin with. The record is a slow-cooked labor of love, born out of taking enough time away from something to understand the journey with greater perspective and appreciation. "I'm older, arguably wiser, but that creative fire stayed with me," GDP says. "I wanted to make something that felt nuanced, something that ! could feel proud of."

Throughout the record he examines vices, interpersonal relationships, the collective dread of late-stage capitalism as well as the pitfalls and rewards of trying to lead a creative life in the midst of it all with GDP's trademark humour and commentary, now refined by years of life lived experience.

Cross Off Matthew will be out Friday 23 October via Run For Cover/Civilians.
