INTERVIEW: IN CONVERSATION WITH KARMA POLICE

It is always exciting when a young band with real promise comes onto the music scene. The Sunshine Coast based-band Karma Police are a four-piece rock band comprising of: Willem (vocals), Madi (bass), Will (guitar), and Isaac (drums). The band are just about to release their debut EP and launch it with their first headline show.

I have been privileged to watch this young band grow and hone their musical skills over the last two years. Karma Police formed around two and a half years ago. “We had a high school music teacher, and when he left the school, we caught up with him again, and he introduced us to each other, and we jammed, played covers and practiced together until we weren’t shit anymore,” explained the band. “Then, Will joined in 2025, and the band line-up was complete.”

Karma Police have racked up some impressive gigs already. They have played with The Finches, The Terrys, Wave Raiders, the Sunny Coast Rude Boys and are part of the Brisbane Teenage Fanclub. I was amazed at the band’s progress at their last gig. Their instrument control and singing skills have leaped forward. And, while their new song references their influences, they have put their own unique spin on their sound. “Our band name came from the first song we had ever played at a gig – Karma Police – and it kinda stuck,” stated the band.

Karma Police recently released their new single ‘Frog In My Throat’, following on with ‘Withered Leaf’. The tracks have received radio support from ABC Sunshine Coast, triple J Unearthed and Brisbane’s 4ZZZ. The band are also an entrant in Unearthed High 2026 and have won battle of the bands competitions, earning them gigs at Peregian Beach Hotel.

Karma Police have recently spent time at Airlock Studios in Brisbane, recording their first EP with producer Cody McWaters. The band are getting ready to release an EP, and this will happen on 15 August 2026 at Nambour’s Black Box Theatre.

Karma Police are definitely a band to keep an eye on, showing songwriting and performance maturity well beyond their years.
