STRIKE OUT AGAIN - the new album from Gold Coast rock outfit THE VERNONS, marks the start of a bright new chapter for the band, and a welcome return. Three years on from their last studio album, THE VERNONS have poured new energy into this project: the result is a spirited collection of music that mixes insatiable rock influences together with sharp storytelling and production.

The album, teased with singles ‘Don’t Give A Damn If You Don’t Believe Me’ and ‘Nightmare’, was recorded in Brisbane with producer/engineer Matt Stewart. Nine songs that grew from initial demos and ideas that were never meant to become an album, STRIKE OUT AGAIN maintains an unpredictable and organic chemistry throughout.

Songs like ‘Please Don’t Stop It’ and ‘I’ll Be Gone’ speak to The Vernons’ songwriting style having matured in recent years; life’s experiences and rhythms coming into play as the album’s sounds redefine the band’s own central sonic vision. Across the record, The Vernons reintroduce the audience to their love of rock and roll and the moments that have inspired them along the way.

“We like to think you can hear those beginnings in the finished record. Nothing is over-polished, and not every song follows the conventional rules. There are rough edges, unexpected turns and imperfections throughout, and that's exactly what we love about the music that inspires us. Strike Out Again captures those moments honestly, without trying to smooth them away.

We wanted to approach things differently. Rather than chasing perfection, we wanted the record to sound like The Vernons in a jam room. Those early demos had an energy, innocence and spontaneity that we felt often disappeared once the recording light came on, and capturing that spirit became the goal from day one.

Wherever it made sense, we recorded live, playing together in the room instead of building songs piece by piece. We also made a conscious effort not to get carried away with studio tricks, effects or endless takes. It's easy to polish the life out of a song in a great studio, but we wanted to leave the rough edges intact. To us, that's where the personality lives.”
