Australian metalcore outfit Mirrors share new single "Home" off their highly anticipated second album, The Red Sky, out Friday 27 November via Greyscale Records. The band will join Inertia for a one-off Christmas show at Sydney’s Crowbar this December, before hitting the road with Ocean Sleeper for a regional Australian tour in March 2027 - tickets on sale now.
Brighter and more atmospheric than its predecessors, "Home" brings a lighter energy to the album, allowing vocalist Patty Goodman's clean vocals to take centre stage. Shimmering and triumphant, featuring a sweeping guitar solo, "Home" is about the moment two people find each other after enduring similar hardships, taking the remains of their past to build a sanctuary together to become a whole greater than the sum of their parts. The new single follows "Devil’s Due", which heralded Mirrors’ return and confronted the figure that pushes us towards self destruction. Whether embodied by someone whose influence brings out the worst in us, or as an internal voice that takes control and pulls us further from the person we want to be, the track is about recognising what needs to be left behind to become better for ourselves and those around us.
Upcoming album The Red Sky sees Mirrors hone in on the mature, expansive sound that has always set them apart. It's a glimmering exploration of apocalypse as both a means of destruction and a pathway to cleansing and reconstruction. Told through both literal and metaphorical lenses, the album examines the moments in life that completely dismantle our understanding of the world around us. "In different times in everyone’s lives, we all experience these moments," says the band. "Whether it’s the loss of a loved one, an individual who breaks us down or a literal force of nature that leaves us wondering what we have left. However, these moments also present the opportunity to grow, discover something new and build something to withstand the next storm."
While "Home" and "Devil’s Due" are the latest glimpse into The Red Sky, last year’s haunting and immersive single "Vestige" is revealed as the album’s first offering. Produced by Ionei Heckenberg (Ocean Sleeper) and mixed and mastered by Lance Prenc (Polaris, Alpha Wolf), "Vestige" explores the tumultuous yet transformative journey of self-discovery and resilience. Built around riff-heavy, dreamy melodies and lyrical depth, the track journeys from personal struggles towards the light, capturing the process of emerging from darkness with a stronger understanding of who we are and what we deserve.
Formed in Gippsland in late 2016 by vocalist Patty Goodman and guitarist Tyson Taifer, Mirrors quickly established themselves as a formidable force within Australia’s heavy music scene. Joined by bassist Jake Mackin and drummer Rob Brens, the band turned national attention towards Regional Victoria with the release of their debut EP, Fool’s Paradise, in 2017.
Its 2019 followup, Cold Sanctuary, took the band beyond the borders of Victoria and around the country, showcasing their craft to audiences on tour with the likes of Wage War (US), Alpha Wolf, Thornhill, Crystal Lake (JPN) and many more. Ceaseless work by the band alongside the production team of Scott Simpson and Lance Prenc (Polaris, Alpha Wolf) began in 2019 and throughout 2020, culminating with an eleven track, genre busting tour de force, in their debut album The Ego’s Weight.
A genre-spanning and deeply introspective record, The Ego’s Weight explored the fall of morality and values while confronting hate and the forces that threaten to consume us. From sparse grooves and gutwrenching ballads to gigantic riffs and frenetic heavy compositions, the album showcased the full breadth of Mirrors’ songwriting and earned the band a nomination for Best Independent Heavy Album or EP at the 2022 AIR Awards. The album also opened the door to some of the band’s biggest moments to date, including appearances at Knight and Day Festival, UNIFY Forever, UNIFY On The Road and Froth & Fury Festival, alongside national headline tours and support slots with Polaris, While She Sleeps, Loathe and more.
"Home" is out now and streaming everywhere. The Red Sky will be out Friday 27 November via Greyscale Records.
