GOOD THINGS FESTIVAL 2025 BEHIND THE MUSIC

At last year’s Good Things Festival, our contributor Stewart worked with bands across the lineup to capture a series of artist portraits throughout the day, including Wargasm, Inertia, Yours Truly, Bad Nerves, Make Them Suffer, Windwaker, South Arcade, CIVIC, Cobra Starship, GWAR, Scene Queen, and Dayseeker. Stewart shares his experience from the day below.

It was an extremely hot day, but we ended up shooting 14 bands from the lineup. Across the course of the festival, I took over 1,600 photos and worked through dedicated portrait sessions with the artists. This year, we made the decision to work with a one light setup, moving away from the four light setup we used the year before. The simplified approach allowed us to work faster, adapt to the conditions on the day, and focus more on creating strong, natural portraits that reflected each band’s personality.

A huge thank you to Alex Manchur for his help liaising with the bands and assisting with lighting support throughout the day. His support behind the scenes made a massive difference in keeping everything running smoothly. Thanks also to Farley Ward for the moral support and for taking some of the best portraits I’ve seen in a long time. Having another creative eye on the day elevated the shoot and pushed the work to another level.

Finally, thank you to Janine Morcos for having us back each year and for continuing to support what we do. Being able to return to Good Things and document the festival again is something I’m always grateful for.
