No Barriers spoke to Michael Jagmin vocalist from A SKYLIT DRIVE
The big news for post-hardcore music fans is that A Skylit Drive have announced their first ever co-headline tour of Australia with Scary Kids Scaring Kids.
The co-headline tour will be an event “full of energy, excitement and fun’ says Michael Jagmin. “For us [A Skylit Drive] we will be delivering a variety of music. Yes. Wires will be a focus, but we have four other albums, many new singles, some covers we love playing and by November we are hopeful for really new music – hopefully going into a new album”.
The other headline band Scary Kids Scaring Kids will celebrate the release of their 2007 self-titled second album and their latest album 2022’s ‘Out of Light’. Scary Kids Scaring Kids is now fronted by Violent New Breed’s Albert Schweizer so he will bring a dynamic re-interpretation of the band’s sound.
Meanwhile, California group A Skylit Drive, has reformed in 2022 after a five-year hiatus. The band is back in the care of Michael Jagmin. They have put the past behind them and are ready to rock on this tour to Australia. “I am so excited to come back to Australia. I was last there in 2013 with A Skylit Drive,” quips Michael Jagmin. “It was rough the distances and sleeping in the van, but hopefully this time it will be different. Most of the guys playing in the band have never been to Australia before. So, everyone in the band is totally excited to be coming. It’s an insane schedule and a gruelling trip but we are 100% up for it”.
A Skylit Drive return to touring and making new music with the flames well and truly reignited. “Before we head to Australia, we will be doing a tour of the USA to make sure we are fit and ready to rock” states Michael Jagmin. “We will have new A Skylit Drive songs with us as well that we are writing now. We are excited about that and we have some other new songs like ‘Sucker’ and ‘Count Me Out’ that have the band’s sound. That sound is important to us – it’s our identity – and what fans want to hear”.
If you need a sample of what you can expect from the live A Skylit Drive experience, their latest EP ‘Wires.. And The Concepts Of…’ features songs for their 2008 debut album ‘Wires…And The Concept Of Breathing’ that was recorded live at The Glasshouse. It’s just five tracks but it gives you a chance to hear the band as they are. “Yeah. The EP is okay,” says Michael Jagmin. ‘But we are going to bring a big setlist to the Australian gigs. So, fans should expect a lot as we jump around from 2008 to now. We are bringing the whole A Skylit Drive experience from the layered guitars, to the vocals and the drums”.
“It’s going to be interesting with us and Scary Kids Scaring Kids working out who closes. Will we mix it up?” says Michael Jagmin. “There’s a bit to work out. But what I do know is that both bands are super excited”.
